In the course of childbirth education, teaching the gravida how to do the birth ball exercise with natural and appropriate movement of the body and pelvis, can not only relieve the uncomfortable pain of the back, promote the mobility of the pelvis, provide better support for the perineum, reduce the excessive stress of the perineum but also let the body feel lighter and more comfortable by transferring parts of body weight. Birth ball can be used to help the gravida maintain the power of control over her body, developing positive feeling forward birth giving, which is one of the ways to promote the comfortable feelings during pregnancy. Using a birth ball during the childbirth education is a new teaching method and clinical use. This article could demonstrate that the gravida can use various kinds of birth ball movement and its effect during different stages of gestation period. (Tzu Chi Nursing Journal, 2004; 3:1, 28-33.)
